Published October 29, 2015

ATLANTA—Msgr. Edward Dillon, pastor of Holy Spirit Church, Atlanta, recently received the Grand Cross of Merit (pro piis meritis) from the Order of Malta at a ceremony in Washington, D.C.

The award recognizes clergy who have given extensive service in support of the work of the Order of Malta. The organization is dedicated to caring for the sick, the poor, and in defense of the faith. Among its works are assisting in bringing the sick to Lourdes, France, for healing prayer and ministering to them during these pilgrimages.

Since the order began in the United States in 1927, the Grand Cross has been given fewer than a dozen times in this country.

Msgr. Dillon previously was recognized with the Cross of Merit for his work with Holy Family Hospital in Bethlehem. He is magistral chaplain of the Atlanta region.

Holy Spirit parishioner Ed Festa has also received honors from the organization in the past. He holds the Commander of Merit award.
