Sophia Academy girls net 10 blue ribbons in track and field

ATLANTA—Sophia Academy finished its track and field season with 13 first-place finishes at a seven-school tournament, including 10 blue ribbons for its girls. The team competed in the Atlanta Private Athletic Conference Track and Field championship on April 21-22. They are coached by John Turner and Patrick Wilson.

The students who medaled were: Zoe Gendell, Asja Joy Kametches, Katie Hood and Emersyn Slaughter, who each took first place in the 4×100-meter relay and first place in the 4×400-meter relay; and Josue Blocus who took first place in the 100-meter race, first place in the 200-meter race and first place in discus.

Asja Joy Kametches also took first place in the triple jump and Katie Hood took first place in the shot put.

During the school year, 80 percent of eligible students participate in after-school team sports or intramurals at the independent Catholic school.
