Meet our new deacons, class of 2015

Rev. Mr. Jorge Carranza

Age: 33, born Oct. 26, 1981, in Chicago. Son of Martin and Bertha Carranza and older brother of Diana and Ivan Carranza and Janet Rivera.

Will be ordained to the priesthood later this year.

Education: St. Joseph Seminary College, Louisiana, bachelor of liberal arts. Finishing a master’s in divinity at St. Vincent’s College Seminary, Latrobe, Pennsylvania.

Work experience: Before entering seminary, worked for Shaw Industries as a supervisor and helped run a restaurant in Calhoun. Also assisted in youth ministry at Our Lady of the Americas Mission in Lilburn.

Additional languages: Spanish.

Hobbies, interests: Playing sports, such as soccer, basketball and jogging, hiking and traveling.

Favorite quote: “For all things work for good for those who love God and are called according to his purpose” (Rom 8:28).

 

Christopher J. Andronaco

Age: 58, born Feb. 24, 1956, in Chicago. Married to Denise for 36 years, with three sons, Jack, Kevin and Nick, and daughter-in-law Kim.

Assigned to the Cathedral of Christ the King, Atlanta.

Education: Northern Illinois University, bachelor of science degree in finance with minor in accounting, 1977. Insurance School of Chicago/Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) professional designation, 1982.

Work experience: 38 years’ commercial insurance experience, currently a vice president placing commercial property insurance with excess and surplus insurers at AmWINS Insurance in Atlanta.

Parish ministries: St. Vincent de Paul, marriage preparation, case sponsor, MUST Ministries, altar server training and liturgy committee.

Ministries of interest: Human trafficking ministry, St. Vincent de Paul food pantry and airport ministry.

Hobbies, interests: Reading, hiking.

David Alexander Baker

Age: 62, born Nov. 12, 1952, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Married to Jane for 36 years, with sons Patrick and Eric, daughter-in-law Jordan, and daughter Victoria.

Assigned to St. Monica Church, Duluth.

Education: University of North Georgia, Dahlonega, bachelor of business administration in management and bachelor of business administration in marketing. St. Pius X High School, Atlanta.

Work experience: NCR Corporation, regional sales manager, sales of point of sale for hospitality industry.

Parish ministries: Catechist, Funeral Guild, altar servers, reader, extraordinary minister of holy Communion and Knights of Columbus.

Ministries of interest: Ignatian Spirituality Project.

Hobbies, interests: Water sports, hiking.

William Michael Brown

Age: 63, born June 15, 1951, in the Bronx, New York. Married to Mary Jane for 28 years, with two daughters, Emily Marie and Abigail Anne.

Assigned to St. Mark Church, Clarkesville.

Education: Chaminade High School, Mineola, New York; bachelor of arts, biology, San Jose State University, San Jose, California; master of arts, Latin American studies, University of Florida, Gainesville; Ph.D., curriculum and instruction, University of Florida, Gainesville.

Work experience: Professor of education, Piedmont College, Demorest; previously a science teacher at Fort Clarke Middle School, Gainesville, Florida, and Crystal River Middle School, Crystal River, Florida; foreign language teacher at Columbia High School, Lake City, Florida; science teacher, St. Augustine High School, St. Augustine, Florida; from 1981-86 served as executive director of the Paracas Foundation, Lima, Perú, and prior to that as science teacher at the American School of Lima; in 1974 served as assistant football coach, Oberlin College, Ohio.

Parish ministries: Sick-homebound Communion ministry, Hispanic One Family Program, Knights of Columbus, religious education, volunteer hospital chaplain, Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Bernardo Buzeta

Age: 61, born Nov. 30, 1953, in Santiago, Chile. Married to Aida for 38 years, with three sons, Fernando, Mauricio and Felipe, and three grandchildren.

Assigned to Holy Cross Church, Atlanta.

Education: Gwinnett Technical School.

Work experience: HVAC tech, owns small company.

Parish ministries: RCIA in Spanish, baptism preparation class, adult education.

Hobbies, interests: Watching soccer.

Brian John Campbell

Age: 57, born July 7, 1957, in New Rochelle, New York. Married to Mary Pat, with one son, Brian Jr., and wife, Lauren, and one daughter, Margaret Pimienta, married to Hugo, and two grandchildren on the way.

Assigned to St. Brigid Church, Johns Creek.

Education: Georgetown University, Washington, D.C., bachelor of arts degree; Fordham University School of Law, New York, J.D.

Work experience: Campbell & Co., managed futures investment management; vice president/regional manager, investment funds wholesaler.

Parish ministries: St. Vincent de Paul Society, Ignatian Spirituality Project, altar server training, Eucharistic Congress parish coordinator, Little Messenger Foundation (India seminary), Knights of Columbus, Men of St. Brigid.

Michael Scott Chavez

Age: 52, born Nov. 28, 1962, in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. Married to Lisa for 30 years, with a daughter, Alyshia Koerner, a son, Jonathan, and four grandchildren.

Assigned to St. Oliver Plunkett Church, Snellville.

Education: Adams State College, Alamosa, Colorado, bachelor of arts in industrial technologies—facilities management.

Work experience: UPS, project manager, corporate office, Construction Management Group. Areas of focus: alternative fuels, construction specifications and standards, and project advisor to field engineers.

Parish ministries: Outreach, youth, disabilities, men’s Bible study, usher, lector, extraordinary minister of holy Communion, liturgical committee and soup kitchen.

Jerome Paul Daly

Age: 52, born Aug. 4, 1962, in Hammond, Louisiana. Married to Wendy for 15 years, with daughters Kai, Sage and Zoe, and two grandchildren.

Assigned to St. Gabriel Church, Fayetteville.

Education: University of Louisiana—Monroe, bachelor of science degree; Spring Hill College, Mobile, Alabama, master’s in theological studies.

Work experience: Captain, Delta Air Lines.

Parish ministries: St. Vincent de Paul Society, adult formation, RCIA, summer lunch program, Knights of Columbus, Amigos for Christ.

Ministries of interest: Serving the homeless, foreign missionary work, religious education.

William Andrew Donohue

Age: 56, born April 17, 1958, in Ridgewood, New Jersey. Married to Terrilyn for 32 years, with sons, A.J., Luke and Wil and daughters, Grace and Harsha.

Assigned to Prince of Peace Church, Flowery Branch.

Education: Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, bachelor of science degree in hotel administration.

Work experience: Executive director, Lake Lanier Islands Development Authority, and also management of lodging facilities owned by the state of Georgia.

Parish ministries: RCIA, Christ Renews His Parish, Embrace, Marriage Encounter, St. Nicholas, Life Teen, Edge, sacristan.

Hobbies, interests: A.J. Donohue Foundation, children’s cancer research, sea turtle preservation.

Derek R. Gant

Age: 53, born June 8, 1961, in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Married to Shawn for 27 years, with one son, Colin, and wife Katie, two daughters, Erin and Loren, and one grandchild.

Assigned to St. Benedict Church, Johns Creek.

Education: Georgia College and State University, Milledgeville, bachelor of science degree in computer information systems.

Work experience: Vice president of strategic accounts for Ammacore. Has worked in the IT and network security business for his entire career both with multinational companies and smaller start-up companies.

Parish ministries: RCIA, religious education, extraordinary minister of holy Communion, men’s group, Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent de Paul, Habitat for Humanity.

Ministries of interest: Pastoral care in hospitals or hospice, prisons or with the programs caring for the homeless, as well as mission work in Central and South America.

Additional languages: Spanish.

Hobbies, interests: Squash, tennis, rugby and unicycling.

John Martin Harvey

Age: 64, born Oct. 21, 1950, in Brooklyn, New York. Married to Donna for 38 years, with one son, Brendon and wife Robyn, two daughters, Megan and Ashley, son-in-laws Lake and Buck, and four grandchildren.

Assigned to St. Andrew Church, Roswell.

Education: Gannon University, Erie, Pennsylvania, bachelor of arts in social science education; Spring Hill College, Mobile, Alabama, master’s degree in theological studies.

Work experience: Equifax, Atlanta, Digital Equipment Corporation: Long Island, New York, and John Harvey Personnel and Xerox Corporation, New York.

Parish ministries: Men’s group, RCIA (teaching), sacristans, Knights of Columbus, liturgy and music.

Ministries of interest: Homeless, spiritual advisor.

James Steven Thacker

Age: 58, born Sept. 2, 1956, in Rome, Georgia. Married to Twila for 38 years, with sons, Ryan and Jonathon, daughter, Kara, and daughter-in-law, Michelle, and five grandchildren.

Assigned to St. Mary Church, Rome.

Education: Georgia Highlands College, associate’s degree; Kennesaw State University, will graduate in May with bachelor of science degree in accounting.

Work experience: Retired from the automobile industry in 2008, after 35-year career, and went back to college.

Parish ministries: Youth ministry and religious education, instructor for altar servers, homebound ministry of holy Communion, Knights of Columbus.

Ministries of interest: Youth ministry, poor and homeless ministry.

Hobbies, interests: Outdoor activities, including road/mountain biking, hiking, swimming, camping and exercising.

John William Timme

Age: 54, born Oct. 29, 1960, in Louisville, Kentucky. Married to Christy for 27 years, with sons, Justin and Kyle, and daughter, Grace.

Assigned to St. Michael the Archangel Church, Woodstock.

Education: St. Pius X High School, Atlanta.

Work experience: Co-owner of 44 Appliance & Supply Co., Inc., a wholesale distributor, for 11 years.

Parish ministries: Knights of Columbus, lector training, extraordinary minister of holy Communion training, and RCIA.

Ministries of interest: Kairos prison ministry, ISP program.

Hobbies, interests: Fishing.
