Jesuit historian to speak at Emory

Published January 22, 2015

ATLANTA—The Aquinas Center of Theology at Emory University is hosting a Jesuit historian to discuss Vatican Council II and how it is shaping Pope Francis’s approach to church issues.

Jesuit Father John O’Malley, of Georgetown University, will speak on campus. His talk is titled “Vatican II, the Synod, and the Church’s Pastoral Ministry.”

The Second Vatican Council updated the church’s pastoral approach. Father O’Malley will discuss the council, Pope Francis, and the Synod on the Family. Father O’Malley will review how the council gave the Church’s pastoral ministry a new orientation and what that orientation means for Catholics today.

The talk is taking place on Tuesday, Feb. 10, at 7:30 p.m. at the Center for Ethics Common (Room 102) on the Emory campus. Admission is free, but tickets are required. To reserve a ticket, visit http://aquinas.emory.edu/events/omalley.html.
