Local schools celebrate recent scholarship winners

Published June 12, 2014

Four students received scholarships to attend Monsignor Donovan High School, in Athens, from St. Mary’s Health Care System.

Selected for the scholarships were Shelby Allen, Hailey Fulford, Jacob Lancaster and Caroline Slate.

The scholarship winners are individuals who, in the Catholic tradition of helping others, are well respected by their teachers, are good stewards of their community, and are committed to doing good work with their gift of scholarship.

At Immaculate Heart of Mary School, in Atlanta, the Edward Barnsley ’86 Memorial Scholarship was awarded to IHM student Georgia Brieske, a rising eighth-grader.

The award was given by Diana Barnsley Fleming, a 1989 IHM graduate and sister to Edward.

Georgia was chosen based on her creative writing skills. She received a $1,000 scholarship and her name is inscribed on a plaque hung in the school’s lobby.
