On Saturday, May 18, the Southside Ultreya hosted its “Feed the Body, Feed the Soul” program as the men of the group submitted 21 entries for the second annual Men’s Cook-Off. The chefs competed for the best entrée and best dessert, with a prize for the best mystery dish.
The ladies of the group had the difficult task of tasting all the dishes and voting on the top prizes.
The winners were:
First-place entrée: Don Reich from Holy Trinity Church, Peachtree City, for his home-style crockpot baked beans with meat and vegetables. (You can find the award-winning recipe at our blog, www.georgiabulletin.blogspot.com.)
Second-place entrée: Glenn Cogar from St. George Church, Newnan, with sausages wrapped in bacon.
First-place dessert: Bob Belmonte from St. Mary Magdalene Church, Newnan, with Bananas Foster.
First-place mystery dish: Dave Voxland from St. George with his Atlantic salmon dip.
The Southside Ultreya is made up of Cursillo members from several local parishes, including St. George, St. Gabriel in Fayetteville, St. Matthew in Tyrone, Holy Trinity, St. Peter in LaGrange, St. Peter the Rock in The Rock and St. Mary Magdalene. The members meet the third Saturday of each month at St. Mary Magdalene, following the 5 p.m. Mass.
