Marist Cross Country Ends On Strong Footing

ATLANTA—For the 11th year in a row, the boys cross country team at Marist School has won the Region 6AAAA Championship and they finished second in the state competition. Sophomore Michael Thurston was the Region 6AAAA champion and he placed second at the state championship meet. Thurston was named to Team Georgia and he also received Atlanta Track Club All-Metro Honors. The other state team members included Alexander Anemogiannis, Max Demacedo, Jim Galvin, Porter Harrast, Jack Keller, Jack Leahey, Matthew McMurray, Daniel Navarro, Ty Nelson, Steven Spiegel and Graham White.

The girls cross country team won the Region 6AAAA Championship for the 14th year in a row, and they won their fourth straight state championship. Freshman Morgan Ilse placed fourth in the state meet and she was Region 6AAAA champ. Ilse was also named to Team Georgia and she received Atlanta Track Club All-Metro Honors. The other state team members included Ashley Brunner, Erin Connolly, Allison Fialkowski, Caitie Faust, Megan Guenther, Emily Harrast, Anne Marie Ilse, Maddie Kitchin, Courtney Marburger, Kate Northrop, Marlaina Schwab and Myriam Shehata.

The boys and girls cross country teams, and their respective coaches, celebrate their success at the Nov. 5 state meet, Carrollton.
