CUMMING—Pinecrest Academy’s new John Paul II Lower School Activities Building was dedicated Oct. 4, the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, expanding the school’s 68-acre campus. The building includes a gymnasium.
Lower School students, like the kindergartners pictured here, will be the beneficiaries of the new Activities Building, which includes a gym, a stage, coaches’ offices and restrooms.
Some 550 people, including Pinecrest families, students, staff, faculty and board members, were on hand for the dedication, which began at
8:15 a.m. with a welcome from the school’s head, Legionaries of Christ Father Robert Presutti. Father Dominic Pham, Legionaries of Christ, blessed the building, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony opened the new building for a reception for guests and for use by the students and faculty.
Ribbon-cutting participants included (l-r) Legionaries of Christ Father Robert Presutti, head of school; Doug Tollett, chairman of the board of directors and his wife Brenda; Madeliene Flanagan, principal of the Lower and Middle Schools; My Thi Huynh, the teacher who has taught in the Lower School the longest; and Andy Barfield, project manager for New South Construction.
New South Construction, of Atlanta, completed the work on the building, led by construction project manager Andy Barfield.
A $1 million gift from an anonymous donor, along with generous donations from Pinecrest families and friends of the school, helped begin construction of the building.
Pinecrest’s Lower School campus will consist of five permanent buildings, constructed in different phases for cost effectiveness and to minimize disruption on campus. Construction of the John Paul II Lower School Activities Building, which began in March, was the first phase in this construction process. The building includes a gym, stage, restrooms and offices for the coaches.
