Catholic Schools Take State Tennis Championships

ATHENS—The Monsignor Donovan High School girls and boys tennis teams were the Georgia Independent School Association (GISA) Region 1AA state runner-up and state champion, respectively, after their April 28 matches at the Newman Tennis Center, Augusta. After defeating Tiftarea Academy, Chula, in the semifinal round, the girls defeated Bulloch Academy, Statesboro, in the finals. The boys also defeated Tiftarea Academy in the semifinal round, and they defeated Heritage Christian Academy, Brunswick, in the finals.
On Saturday, May 8, at the Clayton County International Park Tennis Center, the Marist School varsity girls tennis team defeated Evans High School, Evans, 3-0 in the semifinals of the Class AAAA state tournament, and then they defeated Bainbridge High School, Bainbridge, 3-0 to win their 20th state title, which is a girls tennis record in the state of Georgia.
