Basketball Rivals Team Up For Haiti Relief

Published: January 21, 2010

FAYETTEVILLE—Our Lady of Mercy High School will play its local rival Landmark Christian School, Fairburn, in basketball (junior varsity boys at 4:30 p.m., varsity girls at 6 p.m. and varsity boys at 7:30 p.m.) on Friday, Jan. 29.

On that night Our Lady of Mercy will not charge an entrance fee at the gate. Instead a donation/collection box will be available for the Haitian relief effort.

All money collected will be submitted directly to Catholic Relief Services.

The school typically takes in its biggest gate of the year during the Our Lady of Mercy-Landmark Christian game.

Our Lady of Mercy will also be holding a “pastor challenge” where Father Victor Galier, of St. Matthew Church, Tyrone, will take on Father Michael Kingery, of Holy Trinity Church, Peachtree City. Each priest will shoot free throws at half time of the game for a chance to win tuition vouchers for Our Lady of Mercy, to be given to their parishioners.

Between the rivalry game and the pastor challenge, OLM hopes to make a large donation to Catholic Relief Services to support its Haitian relief efforts.

The Fayetteville high school, located at 861 Evander Holyfield Highway, Fayetteville, is also taking up donations for Haiti relief daily at the school.
