At St. Ann’s, Bread Raises Money For Refugees

MARIETTA—The Widowed Helping Others group from St. Ann Church is offering Branka Bread to raise funds and awareness of refugees’ plight. This bread, which is made from the family recipe of Branka Dondur, a Catholic Charities refugee resource coordinator, is being sold to help the Catholic Charities refugee resettlement program.
The resettlement program helps refugees who have been referred directly from the national agency, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, who are victims of political, religious, or social persecution.
Limited amounts of the bread will be for sale after the 8:45 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Masses on Sunday, Aug. 30, at St. Ann Church. A donation of at least $5 is requested. Samples will be available for attendees of the Masses, and more bread can be ordered through brankasbread@archatl.com if supplies run out.
Refugee families are expected from Burma, Bhutan, Iraq, Vietnam and several other countries. Catholic Charities Atlanta’s refugee resettlement program provides initial housing for refugee families. It tends to their health and educational needs and investigates available employment opportunities.
The program provides several services including airport pick-up upon arrival, provision of housing and furnishings, provision of food including a ready-to-eat meal upon arrival, access to health care, access to English language classes, enrollment of children into school, job readiness education and job training, employment assistance, among many others.
