To the Editor:
It is interesting to note the continuing repudiation of President Obama because of his views on abortion. He is an intelligent, empathetic, community organizer intent on working toward the good of all people. Should we forget these attributes simply because he does not agree with us on the issue of abortion? Should this one fact preclude The University of Notre Dame from having him as its commencement speaker?
Jesus told us to “love one another as I have loved you.” I suggest we view Mr. Obama’s acceptance of this invitation as an opportunity to expose him again to the Catholic Church, its people and our passion toward ending abortion. Let’s welcome him in love and trust that God is working through The University of Notre Dame to help Mr. Obama see the evil of abortion and then toward a plan of action against it.
