Archbishop Donoghue Scholarship To Be Awarded

Published: February 12, 2009

ATLANTA—Qualified high school seniors are invited to apply for the second annual Archbishop-emeritus John F. Donoghue Scholarship from the Georgia Federal Credit Union (GFCU). Applications will be accepted until the March 1 deadline, and the winner of the $2,500 scholarship will be announced April 1.

GFCU was established in 1958 as a teachers’ credit union. In late 2004, under the guidance of Archbishop Donoghue, the Catholic division of GFCU was formed through the merger of Greater Atlanta Catholic Federal Credit Union. During his tenure as archbishop of Atlanta, he demonstrated his commitment and support of Catholic education.

Applicants or their parents must be members of GFCU and their county of residence must be within the Archdiocese of Atlanta.

The scholarship competition focuses on a short essay that emphasizes the importance of the connection between credit unions and Catholic social teaching. In addition, students are required to follow the instructions and application process.

All entries must be sent to GFCU’s Catholic Division, Attn: Hilda Zamora, 6705 Sugarloaf Parkway, Suite 100, Duluth, GA 30097, by March 1.

For the application and specific qualification guidelines, go to the GFCU Web site, www.gfcuonline.org, choose the Information Desk icon and then select Catholic Community.

For more information, contact Hilda Zamora, GFCU Catholic community coordinator, at (770) 476-6400, ext. 6826, or hzamora@
