Letter To The Editor: A Call To Action For Catholics
Published: February 5, 2009
To the Editor:
First let me say that I read each edition of the Bulletin with great interest. The scope of your coverage of Catholic issues is excellent.
Second, I would hope that the cover of the next edition is a feature item on President Obama’s decision in his first three days of office re: the reversal of the so-called “Mexico City” policy, particularly as the President and the popular press managed to slip this decision in under cover of the Guantanamo closing decision. This is an abysmal way to begin a presidency and a call to action on the part of all Catholics.
(The Jan. 22) cover article by a CNS reporter contained references to a Knights of Columbus and Holy Name Society hosting an inaugural jubilee and a notation that Vice President Biden received Communion at a local church. This indicates that at least one local church and CNS are rapidly slipping away from the church’s position last fall of voicing strong opposition to the pro-abortion stance taken by these leaders. … I would hope that you would have avoided running a front-page article by third parties that embed approval of these leaders. It is a time for Catholics to voice our objections to every level of public leadership and to the press about these critical decisions in policy re: abortions.
