Letter to the Editor: Thanks For Weigel

To the Editor:

I just wanted to commend you on adding the George Weigel commentary to The Georgia Bulletin. Mr. Weigel is a contemporary theologian whose commentary regarding the Catholic Church and the papacy is often broadcast on NBC News and EWTN.

“Witness to Hope,” his biography of Pope John Paul II, is the finest book written about our late pontiff. Mr. Weigel was given unprecedented access to John Paul II via personal interviews to write this book. If you admire or wish to spiritually enrich yourself in the works of John Paul II, you must read this book.

For anyone who is interested in the breakup of the Soviet Union, chapter nine describes the pope’s political involvement and role in helping to tear down the Soviet Iron Curtain with minimal casualties.
