Letter To The Editor

To the Editor:
Thank you so much for your letter to the editor (Ralph Heim, “Christmas Straw,” The Georgia Bulletin, Dec. 18, 2008). I just have never done any research on Christmas straw but wanted to add our family (Dad, Mom, and six kids) practice since my youngest, Father Vic Galier, was two years old. (Father Galier is the pastor of St. Matthew Church, Tyrone.) We used multiple colored strips of construction paper to collect in a jar/bowl during the Advent season that represented a good deed done—and those became the offering to the Christ Child on Christmas Eve. Mixed with the straw it is simple and beautiful. Now that I’ve read the centuries-old practice of taking a piece of Christmas straw, then I can be reminded tangibly of Christ’s gift of salvation. I hope you’re flooded with stories. God is with us.
