To the Editor:
And so we say goodbye with great sadness to a true shepherd and holy man, Msgr. Tom Kenny. What a shock it was for his flock to hear the devastating news of his passing. Of course, none of us are sad for him because we know he is in a blissful place, one which he richly deserves. Our sadness is for those who knew and loved him because we will never again be cajoled or inspired by this larger than life Irishman.
For our family, Father Kenny (as he preferred to be called) was there for the major events in our lives over the past 17 years. Father Kenny was the celebrant at our youngest son’s first Mass as an altar server and at his last as a senior in high school. He comforted us after the deaths of three parents and rejoiced with us as he christened our three grandsons.
Like many members of his parish, we never said “no” to Father Kenny when he asked something of us—it just wasn’t done!
It is often said that no one is irreplaceable—this man is. We will miss him terribly.
