Homecoming Planned For Returning Catholics

PERRY—The Catholic Diocese of Savannah will sponsor “One in the Spirit: A Catholic Homecoming” at the Georgia National Fairgrounds in Perry on Saturday, Nov. 1.
The event, in addition to serving as a celebration of the faith, will place a special emphasis on inviting back those who have been away from the faith.
Keynote speakers for the gathering are Cardinal Oscar Andres Rodriguez Maradiaga, of Tegucigalpa, Honduras; Bishop Richard Joseph Malone, of Portland, Maine; and ValLimar Jansen, a highly regarded singer, cantor and recording artist from Upland, Calif. They will speak during the general track of the celebration.
Three other tracks will be offered, including a Hispanic track, a children’s track, for kindergarten through fifth-graders, and a youth track, for sixth-graders through twelfth-graders.
Tony Melendez, a successful musician originally from Nicaragua, who plays the guitar with his toes because he was born without arms, and Father Tony Ricard, pastor of Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish in New Orleans and director of KnightTime Ministries, will entertain the youth track.
The day will end with a 4 p.m. Mass with Bishop Malone as homilist and music by the Augusta Deanery Choir. New Catholics, those who have been received into the faith in the last year, are invited to lead the entrance procession for Mass.
The sacrament of reconciliation will be available from noon to 3:30 p.m. Members of the Diocese of Savannah Marriage Tribunal will be available for private consultation from noon to 2 p.m. for anyone who has marriage annulment questions.
Catholic vendors will be on site throughout the event selling their wares. A Chick-fil-A lunch will be available for purchase.
The Georgia National Fairgrounds are located at 401 Larry Walker Parkway, Perry.
