Former District Attorney To Speak At All Saints

Published: September 11, 2008

DUNWOODY—J. Tom Morgan, former DeKalb County district attorney, will come to All Saints Church on Sunday, Sept. 28, at 7 p.m. to talk about his latest book, “Ignorance Is No Defense,” which explains Georgia laws to teenagers in easy-to-understand language.

Morgan is a nationally recognized expert on the prosecution of crimes against children and served as district attorney of DeKalb County for 12 years. He has also dedicated his career to child advocacy. He was a founding member, and is currently vice chair, of the Georgia Center for Child Advocacy.

The patchwork of laws and ages leaves many confused, and critics say more education is badly needed.

“If society is going to punish them as adults, then society ought to educate them,” said Morgan.

Suicides among young people are a serious problem. Each year in the U.S., thousands of teenagers commit suicide. Suicide is the third leading cause of death for 15-to-24-year-olds and the sixth leading cause of death for 5-to-14-year-olds.

All Saints Church is located at 2443 Mount Vernon Rd., Dunwoody.
