Letter To The Editor: Father Mario Praised
Published: June 19, 2008
To the Editor:
What a touching, inspiring piece is your featured article “Father Mario Concludes Tech Ministry At 81” (The Georgia Bulletin, May 15).
As a long-time college teacher and former priest, and now retired, I found that you nicely captured the context and meaning of Father Mario’s work and dedication, and his warm relating to students over the decades. Their response to his substantive message coupled with his affective concern and support and caring for them was all captured in your beautifully crafted article. Not sentimental yet rich in sentiment, you conveyed to your reader this dedicated man’s commitment and sensitivity for those to whom he ministered over the years, as well as their response to him and his message.
I rarely write letters about media coverage, but this detailed account proved moving throughout the many instances you cite (and recalled my own college teaching and mentoring)—right up to the powerful endorsement of Archbishop Gregory’s fine tribute read at Father Mario’s final Mass.
