Area Track And Field Athletes Excel At State Meet

ATLANTA—Catholic school girls track and field athletes participated in the state meet at Hugh Mills Stadium, Albany, May 1-3, while the boys competed at Jefferson High School, Jefferson, May 8-10. Listed below are the results from some of the schools.

Boys

Our Lady of Mercy High School, Fairburn, finished in third place as a team. The results are as follows: Matt Lethbridge placed first in the 3,200-meter run and second in the 1,600-meter run. Jake Lethbridge placed first in the 1,600-meter run and first in the 800-meter run.

The 4x400 relay team of Jarrell Bankhead, Jared Cooper, Christian Willis, Jake Lethbridge, Courtney Prevost and Matt Lethbridge placed second.

Willis placed third in the 400-meter run and sixth in the 800-meter run. Jonathan Shupenus earned seventh place in pole vault.

The Marist School boys also earned awards at the meet, as follows: Joe Bailey placed second in shot put and third in the discus. David Connolly earned third place in the 1,600-meter run and third place in the 3,200-meter run.

Girls

Our Lady of Mercy High School, Fairburn, finished in fourth place as a team. The results are as follows: Megan Malasarte was the state champion in the 400- and -800-meter run, and Sarah Hohenberger earned third place in the 800-meter run. The 4x100 relay team, Katie Bischoff, Malasarte, Tynese St. Cyr, Jewelian Griffith, D’Arnca Bloodworth and Kristin McClure, placed third. The 4x400 relay team, Bischoff, Malasarte, Hohenberger, Yarahi Castillo, Griffith and McClure, earned fourth place.

For the Marist School girls, Megan Mavity placed fifth in the 3,200-meter run.
