Donovan High School Is State Tennis Runner-Up

Monsignor Donovan High School’s Eric Diaz holds his Georgia Independent School Association (GISA) Region 1A Boys Singles Championship plaque. This is the sophomore’s second straight championship.

ATHENS—For the second consecutive year, Monsignor Donovan High School sophomore Eric Diaz has won the Georgia Independent School Association (GISA) Region 1A Boys Singles Championship by defeating Nathan Aldridge of Curtis Baptist School, Augusta, 6-0, 6-0 in the final round April 21.

As a team Monsignor Donovan defeated David Emmanuel Academy in the semifinal round and then finished as the GISA state runner-up to LaGrange Academy in the finals April 30. Eric Diaz (number one singles) won his match in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. Alex Brousse (number two singles) also won his match 6-1, 6-1. James Miller (number three singles) lost a first set tie break 7-2, but he went on to win the two remaining sets 6-1, 6-4.
