Pinecrest Team Wins 2008 GISA Academic Bowl

NORCROSS—Pinecrest Academy’s varsity academic team won the 2008 Georgia Independent School Association (GISA) annual Academic Bowl tournament held at Wesleyan School on Saturday, March 29. This is the first year the Pinecrest team competed in this event.
The Pinecrest team, Roberto Ocon, Michael Williams, Rob Herd and Kate Foster, won the championship in the varsity category competition, which included 13 of the area’s top schools.
The Academic Bowl is a competition of questions and answers on all topics of human knowledge and is commonly played in high school and college. The game is played with a lockout buzzer system usually with two teams of four players each. The topics used in the competition include literature, history, science and math, social sciences, fine arts, geography, religion, mythology and philosophy.
