St. Pius X Dance Presents ‘Glimpses’ In Spring Concert

ATLANTA—St. Pius X High School will hold its spring dance concert, “Glimpses: Past, Present and Future,” on Friday to Sunday, March 28-30. Audiences will take a musical journey through the past decades and see the school’s dancers perform to songs from other eras, such as “Dust in the Wind,” “Sunglasses at Night” and “Mambo Italiano.” Some of the Pius Players are scheduled to appear, as they partner the Dance II girls in a “Grease Medley.”

The choreography for the show was created by St. Pius X alumni Charlotte Foster (‘01) and Xavier Welcher (‘07), along with featured works by Martha Goodman, Jerylann Warner, Clay McCloud, Jennifer Tyson and Lisa Martin. From classical ballet to modern dance, attendees will witness the diverse talents of the St. Pius X dancers.

For the children’s performance on Saturday, March 29, kids of all ages will have an opportunity to learn more about the art of dance and enjoy an exciting one-hour performance of ballet, jazz, modern and cultural dance. Children will have a chance to join the St. Pius X dancers on the stage and take a backstage tour. Senior dancer Sybil Agu will be accompanied by teachers Matthew Lammers and Chad Paetznick as she performs African dance.

Some of the St. Pius X dance company members have been accepted to prestigious summer dance programs across the country, including Mary Kate McCarthy, invited to Joffrey-Midwest, American Ballet Theatre, North Carolina Dance Theatre and Carolina Ballet; Samantha Jones, invited to the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre; and Noelle Kayser, invited to Alonzo King’s Lines Ballet.

Performances of the dance concert will be Thursday, March 28, at 8 p.m.; Saturday, March 29, at 1 p.m. (children’s performance) and 8 p.m.; and Sunday, March 30, at 2 p.m. All performances will be held in the Monsignor Terry W. Young Center for the Performing Arts on the school’s campus. Tickets are $8 for all performances, except the children’s performance, which are $5.

St. Pius X High School is located at 2674 Johnson Road, NE, Atlanta.
