Good Friday Pilgrimage To Visit 14 Urban Sites

ATLANTA—The 28th annual Good Friday Interfaith Pilgrimage will be held Friday, March 21, beginning at 9 a.m. at the State Capitol and ending at approximately 1 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Jr. memorial. People of all faiths are invited to participate in this yearly pilgrimage, to reflect upon the social justice issues as they connect with the sufferings of Christ in his Passion and death.

The event is sponsored by the Archdiocese of Atlanta, Catholic Charities’ Parish and Social Justice Ministries, and the Catholic Campaign For Human Development.

Archbishop Wilton D. Gregory will open the pilgrimage with prayer at the starting place near the Capitol Building on Washington Street between MLK Jr. Drive and Mitchell Street. The group will move to 14 sites around downtown Atlanta, including City Hall, Trinity United Methodist Church, Fulton County Family Court, the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, the Atlanta History Wall Plaza, the United Way Building on Edgewood Avenue, the Loudermilk Center, the Freedom Quilt Memorial, John Calhoun Park, Big Bethel AME Church, John Wesley Dobbs Plaza/Park, Ebenezer Baptist Church, the Georgia Justice Project and ending with the grave site of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Buses will be available at the end of the pilgrimage for those in need of transportation from the King Center back to the Capitol area.
