Father Egan, Marist School President, Hospitalized

Published: January 10, 2008

ATLANTA—Father Richmond Egan, SM, president of Marist School, suffered an embolism on Wednesday, Jan. 2. He has been hospitalized at Saint Joseph Hospital, Atlanta, since that time and remains unconscious and on life support. Father Egan’s family members from Boston are with him, along with some of his fellow Marist priests. Because Father Egan was in the hospital for a routine procedure the day before the embolism occurred, Father Steve Yander anointed him during a Jan. 1 visit to his room.

Father Egan assumed the position of president of Marist School in 2001, following the retirement of Father James Hartnett, SM. He previously served as director of mission implementation at the school.

Father Egan, who holds graduate degrees in Scripture, liturgy, journalism and law, has been a member of the Marist School Board of Trustees since 1994. He also has served as vicar provincial, director of initial formation and as a member of the provincial council for the Marist Brothers.
