To the Editor:

Being retired military, I was deeply moved by Erika Anderson’s fine coverage of Sgt. Michael Hardegree’s funeral (The Georgia Bulletin, Sept. 27). We who served as he did are deeply grieved by the loss of such a gallant young man.

On July 17 of this year I completed the enclosed prayer. Sharing it with those who read The Georgia Bulletin would be meaningful to this volunteer generation of military who do not shy away from performing their duty in spite of difficult times for them and their families.

“God, receive the souls of our fallen military and record their names in the Lamb’s Book of Life.

“Lord, comfort and sustain the spirits of families who have lost loved ones in battle.

“God, keep strong the fragile hearts and minds of children who have lost a parent in war. Forever surround them with your heavenly love.

“Lord, heal the hearts, souls, minds and bodies of those with visible and invisible combat wounds.

“God, upon reunion, reunite forever the hearts, minds and souls of military family members. Amen.”
