Letter to the Editor: Latin Mass
Published: September 6, 2007
To the Editor:
I have just read Pamela Garrett’s letter in the Aug. 23 edition of The Georgia Bulletin.
I was at Marist during Vatican II, and was a Christ the King altar boy prior to that who dutifully memorized all the Latin responses. I’m guessing she and I are about the same age and have the same experience of the changes that happened around then. Please let me make a few points:
--What the pope and she do not realize is that the beautiful Latin Mass is like theater or a nice opera. Do we really expect my kids’ generation to be drawn to that?
--I and a lot of others did not take 40 years off, but labored in the vineyards.
--What John XXIII accomplished in Vatican II was a miracle, that succeeding popes, cardinals and bishops are managing to eradicate.
Thank you.
