Letter to the Editor from Smyrna

Published: March 29, 2007

To the Editor:

Lately, I get annoyed and become obviously aware of the fact that there are so many Catholics nowadays who come to either weekday or Sunday Masses so late, even after the proclamation of the Gospel, but they still stand in line to receive holy Communion.

I do think this is totally wrong and against our Catholic Church teachings.

Even worse are eucharistic ministers who come to Mass late (after the Gospel reading) but still approach the altar to receive holy Communion and distribute Communion to other Mass attendees.

It is time for all the pastors in our archdiocese to remind their parishioners of this important rule in our Catholic Church. Otherwise, we keep showing our disrespectfulness to our God.

How would we react when we show up so late at the most important party in our life where all VIPs are there? ...

Holy Mass is much more important than any secular parties. Why do we show up so late for our eternal and merciful Father?

We should stop this bad habit in this Holy Lenten season 2007.
