Pinecrest Academy Boys Win Holiday Tournament

CUMMING—The Pinecrest Academy Paladins varsity basketball team traveled to Columbus Dec. 15-16 for the Calvary Christmas Tournament, where they were crowned tournament champions.

Pinecrest was victorious over Calvary Christian School by a score of 51-38. Sophomore Michael Metz had a “double double” with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Franco Garcia and Brian Guhde added nine points each.

Pinecrest also defeated Griffin Christian by a score of 53-45. Metz had a second “double double” with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Guhde chipped in 12 points, along with two assists and two rebounds.

Three of the Pinecrest players were awarded tournament honors as Garcia, Guhde and Metz were named to the All Tournament Team. Metz was also named the tournament’s most valuable player.

In their first home game of 2007, Pinecrest takes on cross-town rival Holy Spirit Preparatory School, Atlanta, on Friday, Jan. 5.
