What I Have Seen and Heard - Archbishop Gregory's Weekly Column

Letter to the Editor from Stone Mountain, GA

Published: April 27, 2006

To the Editor:

I just wanted to give you some feedback on the Corpus Christi Gospel Choir’s mission trip to Grenada. (The Georgia Bulletin, Jan. 26).

We had a couple of concerts in the parish churches, and tickets were sold with proceeds going toward the rebuilding of the (Grenada) cathedral.

We also participated and sang at Mass in the country area, and we experienced the power of the Holy Spirit. After this Mass, the parishioners sponsored a reception for us in appreciation of our participating at their Mass. These people gave out of their needs. God was so present in this gathering.

We also visited the cathedral and witnessed firsthand the devastation of this beautiful cathedral. This sight gave us the urge to pursue fundraising efforts to rebuild the building. The parishioners are temporarily celebrating Mass in a school hall.

We had the opportunity to visit a nursing home that was relocated due to the hurricane, and we were blessed by the people. Despite their disabilities, they worshiped the Lord in song with us with such enthusiasm. We were truly blessed for this opportunity, and it helped us to realize that we need to always encourage and be there for our sisters and brothers in Christ!

Thank you again for the article that you did, making others aware of the need. Thanks so much!
