To the Editor:
A man from the Midwest suggested on CNN last night that churches sponsor at least one family from the Katrina relief shelters. This response seems very much in line with our Christian values. Giving money is great...but if you are alone in a city where you are a stranger, it’s hard to know where to begin. Couple this with your need to mourn your loss of home, community, job, clothes and daily routines. How can anyone start when they haven’t stopped? And how can anyone take a step in the future when their heart, soul and emotions are racing inside of them? Will the Catholic community go to the shelters and see about taking families out of there? Give them a place of their own where they can think things through?
