Spring Sport Athletes Excel At Regional, State Level

Our Lady of Mercy golfer Wade Binfield shot a 1 over par 73 to help lead the school to a Region 5A golf championship. Binfield finished tied for 9th place in the state tournament in Savannah. The senior will be attending Berry College on a golf scholarship when school begins in late August.

Frazier will play tennis for Temple University, Philadelphia, at the collegiate level next year.

During the April 29 Region 6-AAAA men’s track and field championships at Marist School, Atlanta, St. Pius X junior Derek Smith qualifies for the 400 meters finals with a time of 52.42. Smith was also region runner-up in the triple jump at 42 feet, 5 inches.

Golf coach Michael Henry said, “She has been one of the leading scorers on our girls golf team for the last three seasons.”

St. Pius X soccer players celebrate their thrilling 1-0 overtime victory over Woodward Academy. The St. Pius girls were the state runner-up in soccer after losing to McIntosh in the championship match in Peachtree City.

Winning his semifinals match, McBrearity achieved 17 wins for the season. St. Pius X has reached the state finals the past seven years, and this year the defending champs were state runner-up for the fourth time.

Despite a stress fracture that kept her out for six months, Marist School’s singles player Amanda McDowell finished the tennis season with a 14-2 record. The Marist team is coached by Father Frank Kissel, SM.
