To the Editor:

I believe that a good priest both teaches and shepherds those he serves. Father John C. “Jack” Druding is an excellent example of such a priest. He has been a tremendous influence on my own spirituality, as well as that of many others in our parish.

Three things that I thank him for and will always remember about him are his great humility, his love for the Eucharist and his devotion for Mary. Father Jack has been especially helpful this past year with the illness and death of my mother. I will be eternally grateful for his understanding, prayerfulness, and friendship during this time of grief.

I am a eucharistic minister of the sick, and Father Jack has accompanied me on many calls to hospitals, nursing homes and private residences to administer the sacrament of the sick to many of our sick and dying parishioners. He has a warm and comforting way with everyone, young or old. He always greets people after each Mass with a smile and kind word, and he is always willing to offer a helping hand. He has a zest for life and a great sense of humor. A down-to-earth man, his homilies are always from his heart and never written down.

Our parish experienced the loss of a very dedicated, humble and prayerful priest when Father Jack retired after serving St. John Neumann for four years.

Father Jack, may God grant you many years of good health and happiness in your retirement. We love you and will miss you. Thank you for your faithful service, for sharing your great love for Jesus and for inspiring devotions to the real and true presence of Jesus in the Eucharist.

I will remember you as a good and faithful servant of the Lord and a dedicated faith-filled shepherd of the church during your years at St. John Neumann. God bless you in all of your future endeavors.
