Pinecrest Welcomes Archbishop For Annual Visit
Published: December 23, 2004
CUMMING—Archbishop John F. Donoghue made his annual visit to Pinecrest Academy on Nov. 30. He celebrated an all-school Mass, assisted by Pinecrest’s chairman of the board Father James Larson, LC, and chaplain Father Eammon Shelly, LC. Continuing a school tradition, the archbishop blessed the “Baby Jesus” figures from the students’ homes as well as the infant from the school’s Nativity scene.
Following Mass, the archbishop greeted the 10th-grade boys in the Dr. Tierney Memorial Garden, speaking with each one individually. He returned to the gymnasium to a standing ovation and the cheers of the entire student body. The students gave the school’s traditional cheer for Archbishop Donoghue, “You are the best, of all the rest…” and presented him with a framed copy of his coat-of-arms with each quadrant marked with the prayers, Masses and rosaries said for the archbishop’s intentions by the students and faculty.
