Our Lady Of The Americas Mission Celebrates Guadalupe Feast, Advent Masses, ‘Posadas’

DORAVILLE—The celebrations of the feasts of Our Lady of Guadalupe and of Christmas at Our Lady of the Americas Hispanic Catholic Mission (Nuestra Señora de las Americas), 5918 New Peachtree Road, Doraville, includes the following special events.

On Friday, Dec. 10, there will be a noon Mass celebrated especially for children with disabilities. This will be followed by a procession with dancers that will begin at the Plaza del Sol in Doraville and end at New Peachtree Road at the mission. At 7 p.m. Mass will be celebrated followed by events commemorating the apparitions of the Virgin of Guadalupe. On Saturday, Dec. 11, a series of festivities and devotions will begin that will continue overnight at the mission, honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe, the patroness of the Americas. All are invited.

A Guadalupe procession with dancers will begin at Pear Lane at 3 p.m. and end at the mission at 4 p.m. There will be a Mass for the community, especially for catechists and dancers, at 5 p.m. followed at 6 p.m. by Aztec dances and at 7 p.m. by musical groups and at 8 p.m. by the recitation of the rosary.

At 10 p.m. a solemn Mass will be celebrated by Father Fabio Sotelo-Peña, chaplain of the mission, at the arena located at 3037 Pleasant Valley Drive, a few minutes away from the mission. At 11:30 p.m. mariachis will serenade and the group will process to the mission, which will be open for 24 hours.

Overnight events include mariachis at 1 a.m.; a Marian devotion at 2 a.m.; the rosary at 4 a.m.; Mass at 5 a.m. celebrated by Father Arcangel Cardenas; video about the apparitions and procession at 6 a.m.; rosary at 7 a.m.; regular Sunday Masses at 8 a.m., 10 a.m., 12 noon and at 2 p.m. At 3:30 p.m. there will be a large celebration to honor Our Lady of Guadalupe, including dancers, singers, poets and folklorists.

In the days leading up to Christmas there will be a Mass and “posada” on Thursday, Dec. 16, at 7 p.m. On Friday, Dec. 17, there will be a rosary at 6 p.m. and Mass and “posada” at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Dec. 18, there are two Masses at 5 p.m. and at 7:30 p.m. The rosary and “posada” will be held at 6 p.m. A Christmas catechesis party will be held following the 7:30 p.m. Mass.

From Monday, Dec. 20, through Thursday, Dec. 23, the rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. followed by Mass and “posada” at 7 p.m. On Christmas Eve, Friday, Dec. 24, Masses will be celebrated at 8 p.m., 10 p.m. and midnight. On Christmas, Dec. 25, a vigil Mass will be celebrated at 5 p.m. for Sunday, Dec. 26.
