Holy Spirit Prep Hosts Poet Laureate Lecture

Published: December 2, 2004

ATLANTA—Georgia’s Poet Laureate, David Bottoms, Ph.D., will discuss “Thirst and the Writer’s Sense of Consequence” on Thursday, Dec. 9, at Holy Spirit Preparatory School as part of the school’s lecture series. The lecture begins promptly at 7:30 p.m. in the Liberal Arts Building on the Upper School campus located at 4449 Northside Drive near the intersection with Mt. Paran Road. Refreshments are served at 7 p.m., and a book signing will take place after the lecture.

Bottoms is an award-winning poet and the author of six books of poetry. His poetry has appeared in The Atlantic Monthly, The New Republic and other prominent journals and magazines. His latest collection, “Waltzing through the Endtime,” was published in 2004.

Bottoms will explore the relationship between spiritual yearning and the vocation of the artist. He will consider how religious beliefs can animate the poetic impulse.

The lecture is free and open to the public. Space is limited. Reservations may be made by calling (678) 904-2811, ext. 501.
