OLV Pre-Kindergarten Class Dramatizes Christian Folk Tale

Published: November 18, 2004

TYRONE—The pre-kindergarten class of Our Lady of Victory School recently hosted a prayer service for the entire student body that dramatized the renowned folktale “The Tale of the Three Trees.”

Pre-kindergarten teacher Sarah Sutton and seventh-grade literature teacher Freda Nichols worked together with pre-kindergarten aide Kay Webb to create a script based on the famous story that illustrated the life of Christ by reflecting on the three trees whose wood was used to construct Christ’s manger, the boat on which he calmed the stormy sea in Scripture, and the cross on which he was crucified.

Pre-kindergarten students and their seventh-grade prayer partners took various roles and served as narrators for the story.

At the end of the short dramatization, Nichols sang a traditional gospel song entitled “He Lives for Me” with solo flute accompaniment by Spanish teacher Angela Lopez.

As a special surprise, the children were awarded their Our Lady of Victory medals to wear to school daily.

The students of Our Lady of Victory attend weekly Masses and the first Wednesday of each month is reserved for pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, and first-grade prayer services. The entire student body attends all these liturgies and countless parents stop in to pray with the students. The Nov. 3 service marked the first time the class of 2014 has led the school-wide liturgy.
