The DeKalb Choral Guild will present “Cantus Firmus: A Sure Foundation” at the monastery on Sunday, Nov. 21, at 3:30 p.m. Under the direction of conductor Bryan F. Black, the group will present selections reflecting the theme “foundation” in celebration of the monastery’s anniversary. Selections will include plainsong, or Gregorian chant, as the foundation of Western music, the texts and melodies of which have inspired composers both ancient and modern, as well as music from the Shakers, which reflects the journey of the Kentucky monks who founded the monastery. African-American spiritual selections and arrangements typical of the musical “foundation” known in the southern U.S. will also be performed.

For more information about the DeKalb Choral Guild, visit their Web site at http://dcguild.home@mindspring.com.

Admission to all concerts is free. Donations will be accepted. The monastery is self-sustaining and donations are directed toward the care of senior monks.
