Misa Honra Patrona De Cuba

ATLANTA—El sábado 11 de septiembre, la comunidad hispana se reunirá para celebrar la Fiesta de la Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre, y Madre de todos los cristianos.

La celebración comenzará con una misa a las 7 p.m. en la Catedral de Cristo Rey, 2699 Peachtree Road, NE, Atlanta. A continuación habrá una procesión alrededor de la iglesia y después se ofrecerá una recepción en el centro de reuniones de la Catedral. El celebrante principal y homilista durante la misa será el padre Ruskin Piedra, CSsR, quien reside en la Basílica de Our Lady of Perpetual Help, de los Padres Redentoristas en Brooklyn, N.Y. Fué ordenado sacerdote el 19 de junio de 1960, y se graduó con una maestría en educación religiosa de la Universidad de Barry. También el arzobispo John F. Donoghue celebrará la misa. La Madre de Jesús escogió el nombre sinónimo del amor, Virgen de la Caridad, para recordarle a los fieles que su hijo vino a predicar el amor como la respuesta a nuestros problemas e inquietudes. El Santo Padre, Benedicto XV, proclamó en 1916 a la Virgen de la Caridad como Patrona de Cuba a petición de los veteranos de la guerra de la independencia de Cuba.

Patroness Of Cuba Honored With Mass, Procession

ATLANTA—The Hispanic community will gather on Saturday, Sept. 11, for a Mass in honor of Our Lady of Charity, Patroness of Cuba and Mother of all Christians.

The celebration will begin with Mass at 7 p.m. at the Cathedral of Christ the King, 2699 Peachtree Road, NE, Atlanta, and will be followed by a procession around the church and a reception in the parish hall. The principal celebrant and homilist will be Father Ruskin Piedra, CSsR, who resides in the Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help of the Redemptorist Fathers in Brooklyn, N.Y. He was ordained a priest on June 19, 1960 and holds a master’s degree in religious education from the University of Barry. Archbishop John F. Donoghue will also celebrate the Mass.

The Mother of Jesus chose the name synonymous with love, Virgin of Charity, to remind the faithful that her Son came to preach love as the answer to problems and anxieties. Pope Benedict XV named the Virgin of Charity in 1916 as the Patroness of Cuba upon the petitioning of the veterans of the Cuban war of independence.

All are encouraged to come to the Cathedral on Sept. 11 to join with Mary and pray with her to her Son for the whole church, for Cuba and for the needs of all. All are invited.
