Ignatius House Offers Spiritual Retreats

ATLANTA—Ignatius House Jesuit Retreat Center is holding a variety of spiritual retreats through April 2004.

The retreats provide time to take a break from the daily routine and to grow closer to God through contemplation of the beauty of nature in the grounds and through reflection and meditation. The center’s silent, reflected retreats are based on the spiritual exercises of St. Ignatius, and the Christian Growth Retreats focus on the biblical principles in those exercises. They are all open to people of all faiths who are seeking to discover and live out God’s will in their lives.

Ignatius House, located in a secluded and prayerful riverside setting, provides a private room, private bath and home-cooked food for retreat participants. Rooms are comfortable and climate controlled. They are simple but not rustic. The retreat center is owned by the Southern Province of the Society of Jesus and is named after St. Ignatius of Loyola, a sixteenth-century nobleman and the founder of the Jesuit Order. The spiritual exercises that are practiced there are based on the notes that St. Ignatius himself made as he underwent his own spiritual conversion at Manresa, Spain.

Retreats offered in the first months of 2004 include the following: on Jan. 2-4, an AA/Alanon retreat; Jan. 8-11, three-day silent retreat; Jan. 29-Feb. 1, three-day silent; Feb. 13-15, two-day women’s silent; Feb. 19-22, three-day silent; Feb. 27-29, two-day Christian growth; March 5-7, two-day silent; March 12-14, two-day Christian growth; March 18-21, three-day silent; April 2-4, two-day silent; April 7-9, Wednesday-Friday, Holy Week; April 15-18, three-day silent; April 23-25, two-day silent; April 30-May 2, 11th Step Retreat.
