
Special Advent Services Planned Around Archdiocese

The following special Advent services are offered around the archdiocese in December:
Friday, Dec. 12
Live Nativity by middle school students and youth group, 7 p.m., St. Mary Magdalene Church, 4046 Lower Fayetteville Rd., Sharpsburg, in tin barn. Luminaries will light the path and cookies and hot chocolate will be served afterward. Call (770) 253-1888.
Saturday, Dec. 13
Advent family retreat, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., St. Augustine Church, 11524 Hwy. 278 East, Covington. Mass at 9 a.m., followed by activities, adoration, confession. The S.O.L.T./Hoste Ecclesial Team will facilitate. Breakfast snack and potluck lunch. Register at (770) 784-7421.
Advent day of reflection, 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., entitled “The Light Is Near, Very Near!” at the Maisha House Of Prayer, 520 Parkway Dr., Atlanta, staffed by Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament. Call (404) 872-0096.
Concert by Atlanta Boy Choir, 7 p.m., Abbey of Our Lady of Holy Spirit Monastery, 2625 Georgia Hwy. 212, Conyers. Tickets to the concert are $20 per person and are available at the Conyers Welcome Center or by calling (770) 602-2606.
Live Nativity, 3:15 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., presented by the youth of St. Peter Chanel Church, 11330 Woodstock Rd., Roswell. Admission is free, but tickets are required. For information call (678) 277-9424.
Sunday, Dec. 14
Parish mission begins (through Dec. 17), 6:30 p.m., St. Mark Church, 5410 Hwy. 197 South, Clarkesville. Father Daniel McCaffrey will host the mission, which will focus on what it means to be a Catholic today. Cathedral Choir presents “A Candlelight Service of Advent Lessons and Carols,” 9 p.m., Cathedral of Christ the King, 2699 Peachtree Rd., NE, Atlanta. Fourteenth annual presentation will feature music of Hispanic origin by Spanish and native Aztec and Nahua Indian composers. All are invited. Call (404) 233-2145, ext. 470.
