St. Joseph’s Welcomes Children From Devereux

Published: November 20, 2003

MARIETTA—On Sunday, Nov. 23, St. Joseph’s Church in Marietta will welcome children from the Devereux Treatment Center for the 5:30 p.m. Life Teen Mass.

Devereux is a residential treatment facility for children between the ages of 11-17 with serious emotional and/or physical disabilities. It has been in existence in the Marietta area for 30 years, but no Catholic presence had been there until three years ago. Since then, members of St. Joseph Parish have visited the children at Devereux each month, introducing them to Scripture through song and prayer. The pastoral team arrives bearing gifts of homemade cookies lovingly prepared by the people of the parish. Some of the children from Devereux have been practicing diligently on spiritual songs that they plan to sing for the parishioners of St. Joseph during the Life Teen Mass. Since arriving in July at St. Joseph’s, parochial vicar Father Ricardo Bailey has been visiting the children monthly and will be the Mass celebrant. For information call the church at (770) 422-5633. St. Joseph’s is located at 87 Lacy St., NW, Marietta.
