Sweet Victory … And A 21-Year Streak Ends
Published: November 13, 2003
The St. Pius X High School varsity football team and coaches defeated Marist School for the first time since 1981, ending a 21-year losing streak on Nov. 7. In the background the scoreboard illuminates the final score of 20-17 and also indicates that when the game ended in the fourth quarter, the St. Pius Golden Lions were on the 35-yard line and it was third down with 10 yards to go for a first down. While the team is elated and the coaches are proud of the players, last Friday’s victory celebration was short-lived because the team must remain focused as it prepares for the upcoming playoffs in Class AAAA. As of press time, their opponent had not been determined. (Photo by Michael Alexander) |
