Marist School To Hold Annual Holiday Traditions Arts And Crafts Fair

Published: November 6, 2003

ATLANTA—Each year the Marist School administration and faculty create a wish list of items for continued excellence in student education or school improvements that are not provided for in the school budget. And each year the Marist School Parents Club helps make these wishes come true by presenting the Holiday Traditions Arts and Crafts Fair—now in its 23rd year.

This year the juried arts and crafts fair with over 150 craftspeople participating will be held Saturday, Nov. 15 on the school campus from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

“Holiday Traditions has evolved into one of the most respected juried craft shows in the city and state,” said Tee Barnes, Parents Club board member.

In the beginning, the fair featured handmade crafts by Marist School mothers created at home and in workshops, said Diane Haertel, Marist School athletic events coordinator and a past Marist parent. The fair now draws leading regional crafters and artists from eight surrounding states. Talented Marist student-artists also display and sell their wares. Visitors can also purchase refreshments from the bakeshop and snack bar.

Among the well-known artists involved with Holiday Traditions are the late craftsman Howard Finster and his daughter as well as the nationally renowned creator of “Jewels Jewels,” whose pillows are viewed by millions each week on the sofa of the “Friends” sitcom. Marke Edge, a noted Atlanta-based jeweler and craftsman, will display his collection of handcrafted creations, which include combinations of semi-precious stones, silver and gold metals, suede and leather. Edge’s designs have been worn by Courtney Cox, Lucy Liu, CNN anchorwoman Sophia Choi and Jane Fonda, as well as other women of diverse backgrounds. Other artisans to display and sell their wares specialize in holiday crafts, woodworks, pottery, baby items and handmade soaps and scents.

Parking is free, and shuttle service is provided. While strollers are discouraged, everyone is welcome. For information contact Caryn Young, alumni and communications assistant, at (770) 936-6489 or youngce@marist.com.
