Ignatius House Offers Individually Directed Retreats Nov. 16-21
Published: November 6, 2003
ATLANTA—Finding God in all things. Reflecting on service to Christ. These are a few of the themes to be explored on a retreat based on the spiritual exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus.
Ignatius House will offer its next individually directed fall four- and five-day retreats from Sunday, Nov. 16-Friday, Nov. 21. Ignatius House is open to individuals of all faiths who are sincerely seeking to discover and live out God’s will in their lives. Located on Riverside Drive, the facility is primarily used as a location for spiritual group retreats, which consist of silent reflection, meditation and prayer. But often people come and pray on their own, and this past summer an entire week was set aside for individually directed retreats.
“The personally directed retreat is a gift you allow God to give you,” said one retreatant. Another said, “It’s a chance to be alone with God and for God to reveal God’s self and your self to you; it will change the way you pray, choose, read the Bible and live your life.”
St. Ignatius taught that a spiritually based lifestyle involves one’s free and authentic response to God’s invitation to a personal relationship and that this relationship is forged, further developing one’s own spirituality, when one begins to see experiences as an expression of God’s presence in daily living.
A retreat at Ignatius House and participation in the spiritual exercises is often the first step toward understanding experiences and allowing God not only to step into one’s life but also to remain there.
There is no set fee for making the exercises, but the suggested offering is $50 per day, which includes meals, a private room and bath, daily liturgy and meeting once a day with a personal director.
