Dominican Scholar Offers Seminar For Laity
Published: October 30, 2003
DECATUR—Professor Richard Schenk, OP, visiting Dominican Scholar this fall in the Candler School of Theology at Emory University, will present the Aquinas Center’s Fourth Annual Outreach Seminar for Laity on Saturday, Nov. 8.
The talk sponsored by Emory’s Aquinas Center of Theology will be held at St. Thomas More Church, 624 W. Ponce de Leon Ave., Decatur, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Mulhern Hall. A $30 fee includes lunch. Registration is required.
Schenk, of the Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley, Calif., will speak on “Catholic Church Positions on Inter-Religious Dialogue” and will follow in the vein of one of the two themes that have most recently occupied his scholarship: the history and systematics of the Christian theology of non-Christian religions. He suggests that the current systematic search for a genuinely Christian stance toward other religions would be partially blind without detailed historical knowledge of previous Christian efforts in this realm and their successes and failures. In this seminar the professor will focus on the efforts within the church to find an appropriate stance toward non-Christian religions. To register, call (404) 727-8860. |
