Walk To Benefit Juvenile Diabetes On Oct. 25

Published: October 23, 2003

ATLANTA—St. Jude the Apostle School first-grader Meg Byrne has diabetes, and her teacher and other members of the school community will support her by participating in the “Walk To Cure Diabetes” on Saturday, Oct. 25 at the Concourse Office Park near Perimeter Mall.

The walk, which is sponsored by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund, will begin with registration at 9 a.m. followed by the 5K walk at 10:30 a.m. Byrne’s first-grade teacher Shaun Gerblick and her two daughters will join Meg on the “March for Meg” team. Gerblick encourages others to turn out in support of the little girl or to make a donation to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund.

The walk is held in over 200 locations throughout the year and is the fastest-growing fund-raising event in JDRF’s history. More than 750,000 men, women and children—including those from 5,000 large corporations and local companies, along with 3,500 family teams—will participate this year. Last year, the walk raised $66 million for diabetes research. For information on the Georgia event, contact Pam Nestor at pnestor@jdrf.org or (404) 420-5991.
