Public Welcomed To A Day With Mary Oct. 25

Published: October 23, 2003

ATLANTA—The Franciscan Friars and Sisters of the Immaculate will lead “A Day With Mary” on Saturday, Oct. 25 at the Cathedral of Christ the King.

The Cathedral MIM Rosary Group welcomes the Franciscans from New Bedford, Mass., to lead the day of instruction, devotion and intercession, based on Mary’s message at Fatima, Portugal, in 1917. As Pope John Paul II said, “If the Church has accepted the message of Fatima, it is above all because that message contains a truth and a call whose basic content is the truth and the call of the Gospel itself.”

The day will open with coffee and doughnuts at 8:30 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. with a potluck dinner in the parish hall. At 9 a.m. there will be an entry procession of the Our Lady of Fatima statue, an introduction by Father Joseph Michael Mary, FI, and crowning of the statue. At 9:20 a.m. an outdoor procession will begin, during which people will pray the joyful mysteries of the rosary and sing the Litany of Loreto. Father Joseph will give a talk on Mary at 10 a.m. followed by Mass at 10:30 a.m.

At 11:45 a.m. there will be a break for lunch. Participants are asked to bring a packed lunch. Drinks will be provided.

At 1 p.m., exposition and an outdoor procession of the Blessed Sacrament will be held with recitation of the luminous mysteries of the rosary. At 2 p.m., silent adoration will be held, followed by a talk on Mary and the Eucharist by Father Angelo Michael Mary, FL. Adoration will resume at 2:45 p.m. At 3 p.m. the Divine Mercy Chaplet will be prayed. The praying of the sorrowful mysteries of the rosary and silent adoration will follow. There will be a break from 4-4:30 p.m. with refreshments. Then the glorious mysteries will be recited, followed by the act of consecration to Mary, prayer for the dying and the holy souls and Benediction. A 5:30 p.m. vigil Mass will be celebrated in the Cathedral followed by dinner.

The event is open to all. A nursery will be available from

8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. To stay for the dinner or for more information call Holly Moccia at (404) 376-3016 and leave name, phone number and e-mail address. For directions call the Cathedral at (404) 233-2145, ext. 461. The church is located at 2699 Peachtree Road, NE.
