St. Benedict’s Hosts K4J Camp For Hispanic Children
Published: October 9, 2003
DULUTH—The Hispanic community at St. Benedict Church was blessed with the K4J camp held during the first week of August. Kids for Jesus (K4J) is a Catholic educational program developed by the Legionaries of Christ and Regnum Christi that fosters character formation of children. It is structured to unite families with the church by providing dynamic programs and events for parish, school and family settings.
The children of St. Benedict’s practiced a virtue every day while playing with their peers, competing against different teams or participating in a daily rally. For example, the virtue of “focus” was practiced and children were encouraged to concentrate in their activities, and games that day included tasks requiring detailed work and concentration. Other virtues practiced were obedience, respect, self-control and joy.
Father Guillermo Córdoba, parochial vicar, and seminarian Ricardo Botello directed the vacation Bible study. Pinecrest Academy in Cumming facilitated the material for the games and the inspirational decorations. Over 90 children participated in the camp, along with 20 team leaders and several volunteers from the St. Benedict community.
The religious education program for the Hispanic community at St. Benedict now includes K4J in its curriculum. The program is available in English and Spanish and may be viewed at www.catholickidsnet.org. |
